Each conference day has one of the natural elements as its subtheme: Water, Wind, Fire and Earth.
The programme consists of plenary morning assemblies, workshops and excursions during the day and discussion groups in the afternoon. Evenings are reserved for relaxation, friendship and culture.
The workshops and excursions represent subjects such as natural science, the environment, outdoor life, and sustainable development. These subjects are the main focal areas for the Norwegian Ministries of Environment and Knowledge’s pilot project ”The natural schoolbag”.
The discussion groups relate to the subject of the day. Participants can explain their local challenges and discuss solutions with their peers. The group agrees on one action point each day that they think is the most important for politicians to take seriously. These action points are gathered in a document, and sent to the respective Ministers of the Environment for the represented countries, to the Executive Director of UNEP Achim Steiner and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.
